It sounds really amazing.

Another wordless picture book which I love is Zoom. It's great for discussions on perspective, seeing the bigger picture, etc. And as you said, wordless books take so much pressure off of students with weaker reading skills (whether due to being ESL students, learning disabled, etc.) and allows the comprehension to really take over.

Thanks for sharing this list!

-AlexisScrapshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15911315552965685448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8592131495636586349.post-23787919984224037742013-08-11T23:02:06.093-05:002013-08-11T23:02:06.093-05:00Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind words a...Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind words and encouragement. It really means so much to me that you found this list helpful. This is the first time I've ever participated in a blog event and It makes a huge difference to have this kind of supportive response. I appreciated your commentary on all of these books. I just recently read Pink and Say and yes, more of a teen read. Very heavy but so much to talk about. The Memory String is a treasured book in my classroom library. I use it also when we talk about how a book can transform our thinking - in this case about the stereotype of the "evil/mean stepmother." It is a really beautiful book. Eve Bunting is just incredible. Thanks for such a thoughtful list.Carrie Gelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08416480940951200461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8592131495636586349.post-50558027433862454772013-08-11T11:43:46.662-05:002013-08-11T11:43:46.662-05:00I heard Mac Barnett talking about the Battle Bunny...I heard Mac Barnett talking about the Battle Bunny and I can't wait to read it! I love the complexity you share that is often overlooked about picture books and there many uses in our classrooms. I love this, "Maurice Sendak understood what many advocates of picture books for teens understand: simple is not simplistic." So true!

So many great titles here!
CathyCathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08233792477358685156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8592131495636586349.post-73237644726746764472013-08-10T12:19:35.506-05:002013-08-10T12:19:35.506-05:00What a wonderful list! Like Deb I will be adding Battle Bunny to my wish list. I also appreciate the work you put into your post. You have a strong voice for adolescent literature and how the picture book supports literacy for teens. Thanks for that.

JulieAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12673579851516502643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8592131495636586349.post-73730833547681072712013-08-10T09:44:41.066-05:002013-08-10T09:44:41.066-05:00What a wonderful list!
